Too Faced Chocolate Bar vs. Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Comparison, Review and Swatches

Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette and Chocolate Bar Comparison

Since the release of Too Faced’s Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar palette, the question on a lot of people’s mind is, “Which Chocolate Bar palette should I buy now?” Although both are very similar palettes, they are, indeed, very different.

It’s incredibly easy to assume that both have the same color scheme at first glance; however, the original Chocolate palette is centered around various shades of natural browns, soft pinks and a plum pop of color, and the Semi Sweet palette concentrates around bronzy chocolate hues with warm and cool undertones.

Many claim that the pigmentation of the Semi Sweet eye shadows are not as good as the original, but I believe that both are on the same level of pigmentation. Both palettes contain shades that are brilliantly packed with intensity, with the exception of two shades in each palette, Black Forest Truffle and Candied Violet in the original, and Pink Sugar and Blueberry Swirl in Semi Sweet. I think that the colors such as Candied Violet and Blueberry Swirl shouldn’t be as pigmented because when working with color, it’s better to keep packing it on to create a flawless blended look.

The pink featured in the Chocolate Bar is very pigmented, and can be used all over the lid, while the one in the Semi Sweet palette is less pigmented, BUT it can be used to layer on top of another shade for a beautiful, glittered look, perfect for night time and parties. The Semi Sweet has a black eyeshadow, and the original doesn’t, but it does have a beautiful dark, olive green eyeshadow.

This time around, Too Faced chose to include the names of the shades on the actual packaging. The Semi Sweet is also less bulky, but the latest edition of the Chocolate Bar palettes are now packaged thinly. Both eyeshadow palettes smell like cocoa galore.

So if you asked me, “Which one do you prefer or like better?” When I first purchased the Semi Sweet palette, it was hard to come up with the answer, but now, I pick the Semi Sweet palette, hands down. It’s not because it’s better quality; it’s because of the gorgeous warm colors with orange undertones. I always opt for caramel crease shades, and the Semi Sweet has a beautiful selection. And the awesome bronzy shades? Heaven!!! Just look at the swatches above! PLUS, did you guys not notice the beautiful taupe shades in the palette? Umm, hello? Where are my cool-toned lovers at? Oh, and it has a matte dusty rose shade, which most palettes don’t carry. If you’re wondering about the longevity of the colors, I always have to put on a primer because I have oily lids; therefore, the eyeshadows lasted all day.

Now, if you asked me, “Do you regret getting both?” No, I don’t regret it at all! If you can afford both palettes, then go for it. Both palettes are definitely in my top five favorite eyeshadow palettes. Both have different shades, regardless of everyone’s opinion, and Too Faced never fails when it comes to quality. Both palettes can be found on Too Faced’s website, Ulta and Sephora stores for $49.

Just like everything in life, makeup is very subjective. So what I like may not work for you, but keep in mind that Ulta and Sephora have awesome return policies; so, it doesn’t hurt to purchase the palette of your choice, or both, and give it a go. When trying to choose between both palettes, buy the one that’s in your usual color preference, or to change it up a bit, go for the one that has colors that you usually don’t like.
