Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks Review and Swatches

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Maybelline recently launched its own “liquid lipsticks” line for spring. As we all know, the matte lip trend has been all the craze within the beauty community, and it seems that every single cosmetic brand is releasing their own version of matte liquid lipsticks. Drugstore companies are no exception.

These liquid lipsticks are being advertised as matte, but they’re not. They have a velvet, mousse-like consistency and feel very moisturizing on the lips. When I applied them onto my lips, they gave a matte appearance but didn’t set completely matte on the lips. These are not your traditional liquid lipsticks; these lipsticks glide very smoothly on the lips and are super pigmented. There wasn’t any streakiness or any bleeding with the bolder shades, and they didn’t cling onto dry patches. The Vivid lipsticks have a doe-foot applicator, which makes the application on the lips easy. I bought three shades, Nude Flush, Fuchsia Ecstasy and Berry Boost.

The two major drawbacks I found with these lipsticks are the scent and transferability. As soon as I opened the tube, I immediately noticed a strong, chemical, artificial scent. I didn’t find the scent too offensive, but I prefer them without a scent. For someone who is sensitive to fragrance, they will find this product completely foul and a major turn off. Even though the scent of the Maybelline matte lipsticks is strong, it doesn’t linger after application. Second, they aren’t transfer-proof; so, they only last on the lips for approximately two to three hours. The bolder shades, Fuchsia Ecstasy and Berry Boost, left a stain on my lips, but it wasn’t patchy or uneven. I found that Nude Flush would fade away quickly, but it’s my favorite shade from the ones that I purchased.

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid LipsticksThe 10 shades released are:

Top Row (Left to Right)

  • Nude Thrill
  • Nude Flush
  • Pink Charge
  • Electric Pink
  • Orange Shot

Bottom Row (Left to Right)

  • Rebel Red
  • Fuchsia Ecstasy
  • Berry Boost
  • Vivid Violet
  • Possessed Plum

I would recommend these to anyone that loves the matte appearance of lips, but doesn’t want to deal with the dryness and flakiness of traditional liquid lipsticks. However, as mentioned earlier, if you’re sensitive to scents, stay away from these lipsticks. Also, I wouldn’t recommend this product to someone who is looking for a complete matte and transfer-proof lipstick.

I bought the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid lipsticks at Walgreens for $5.99. You can find them at any drugstore or at Ulta.

Have you tried any of the new Maybelline Vivid Matte liquid lipsticks? If so, what did you think of them?
