Makeup Essentials List

Makeup Essentials 2017

Hello, and welcome back! We figured since we haven’t posted on the blog in a while, we would share our current top five crucial and loved makeup products.

Janice’s Top Five Essentials:

  1. Rituel de Fille Ash and Amber Eye Soot in Love Spell– I’m going to be honest; I’m most excited to write about this product. This eyeshadow is the eyeshadow of my dreams. The warm, metallic copper color is just simply flattering. It has just the right amount of shimmer to not make the eyeshadow look flat, and it lasts all day on my lid. The texture of the eye soot is quite interesting because it’s a mix between a powder and a cream. I can’t get enough of it because it’s the kind of color that doubles as a crease and a lid eyeshadow. I have to force myself to use other eyeshadows because I can’t stop using it. I don’t want to give too much away because the Rituel de Fille Amber Eye Soots deserve their own post. I own a few colors, and I will write an in-depth review and provide swatches.
  2. Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara– When it comes to mascara, I’ve never had much luck with it. Either the formula didn’t hold my eyelashes up or I ended up looking like a raccoon by the end of the day, and let me assure you, it doesn’t look pretty. I was a longtime fan of Loreal’s Telescopic Black mascara, but I didn’t get enough volume. When I got a discount on the Velvet Noir mascara during a Sephora VIB sale, the price didn’t look so bad. Marc Jacob’s Velvet Noir mascara makes my eyelashes look really thick and long, and the best part about it, it doesn’t flake! I can apply up to three coats of the Noir mascara, and my lashes don’t get clumpy. I, especially, love applying it after I use an eyelash curler. I’ve already gone through three tubes of the mascara, and I’m now on my fourth one. I always take advantage of the Sephora VIB sale to purchase it because it’s super pricey for a mascara.
  3. NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien– this product is another one that I simply cannot stop wearing. Rikugien is a pink rose shade that’s light enough to be considered a nude, but it also has the perfect punch of color. It’s stunning. I feel as though the NARS satin lip pencils don’t get a lot of love anymore, and I don’t get why. I will say that it’s not long lasting, but the color and the satin finish is more than enough for me to grant this product as holy grail status.
  4. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner– For a while, this used to be my go-to eyeliner; then, I started using Kat Von D’s Tattoo eyeliner, but then realized, there’s nothing like the Stila one. While the felt tip and the glossy finish are slightly bothersome, the Stila eyeliner is truly waterproof and long-lasting. My favorite thing about it is that it DOESN’T smudge. This is the ultimate eyeliner because it doesn’t dry up after a few uses.
  5. NYX Butter Gloss in Strawberry Parfait- this product is another throwback product. I picked this butter gloss back up, maybe, two months ago, and I had flashbacks as to why I loved it so much. It’s such an easy lip product to apply, the baby pink color is flattering, and the formula is not too sticky.

Jenny’s Top Five Essentials:

  1. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint in Classic Ivory– This foundation has been a total dream on my face. It delivers radiance and healthy-looking skin. Ever since it was released, I’ve been using it every day. I receive so many compliments from people who say my base looks flawless and natural. It’s been said that it’s a total dupe for La Mer The Soft Fluid Foundation, which retails for $110.00 (BIG gulp). In my opinion, I would never spend that much money on foundation especially since drugstore makeup has been releasing excellent base products that won’t break the bank. If you’ve been wanting to try the La Mer Foundation, I would definitely give this product a shot first, and let’s not forget the fact that it’s worth a fraction of the La Mer foundation.
  2. Milani Powder Blush in Warm Petals– What can I say? I’m a sucker for the packaging. Not only is the packaging to die for, but the blush itself is also absolutely stunning. The shade is a beautiful, peachy bronze blush with subtle shimmer that doesn’t accentuate my pores and diffuses a glow on my cheeks. I love this blush so very much!! So, if you’re looking to be cool for the summer, then run to your closest drugstore pharmacy and pick this up…like NOW.
  3. Glossier Stretch Concealer in Medium/Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Light Sand- As we all know, the Tarte Shape Concealer has hit the makeup world by storm, and it has been pretty hard to get your hands on it. Now that the storm has settled, I was able to find this rare gem at Ulta. Unfortunately, the shade I picked up was too light and created more of a highlighted look under my eyes, which in all honesty, I really dislike. I looked like a person who wore sunglasses during a tanning session, and then, when I took them off, it left a white cast around my eyes. A few months ago, my sister gave me her Glossier Stretch Concealer because it was too light for her skin tone; so, I welcomed it with arms wide open. Mixing these two products was perfection; the combination provided a color best suited for my skin tone, coverage and hydration for my dry under eye area.
  4. L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara– I can’t believe that I’d forgotten how much I adored this mascara. Recently, most of the mascaras that I own have been flaking off and bleeding. At this moment, this is the only mascara that doesn’t transfer and protects me from looking like a raccoon. I also appreciate the voluminous, luscious look it gives my lashes.
  5. Colourpop Lip Gloss in Bestie- Am I the only one delighted that glossy lips are finally making a comeback? I’ve been over the matte trend craze; it’s yesterday’s news. This gloss is the perfect everyday lip color with rosy tones that gives my lips life and that kissable pout look that everyone covets. The formula is not sticky and is extremely comfortable on my lips.
