Make Up Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Review

Make Up Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer, Make Up Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Redness Correcting Primer

Makeup Up Forever reformulated its Step 1 Skin equalizers to provide smooth, long-lasting and even skin tone benefits to the overall appearance of makeup. I usually shy away from primers because I think they are a gimmick, but since I heard so many great reviews on them, I bought the mattifying and the redness correcting primers to prove my theory wrong.

According to the Sephora website, the 10 primers in the Skin Equalizer line target the following skin issues:

  1. Smoothing Primer evens the skin’s texture.
  2. Mattifying Primer reduces shine for oily skin
  3. Hydrating Primer preps normal skin and restores balance.
  4. Nourishing Primer moisturizes and comforts.
  5. Redness Correcting Primer neutralizes.
  6. Radiant Primer Blue adds radiance to light skin.
  7. Radiant Primer Pink adds radiance to light to medium skin.
  8. Radiant Primer Yellow adds radiance to light to medium skin.
  9. Radiant Primer Peach adds radiance to medium to tan skin.
  10. Caramel Primer adds radiance to dark skin.

I’m a huge fan of Make Up Forever’s foundation products, but these primers weren’t cutting it. I hate to be so harsh, but I am nothing if not honest. The mattifying primer has a soft, silicone feeling to it that didn’t bother me, but once I applied it to my T-zone area, my face felt so darn tight; however, I will say that the mattifying primer did create a smooth and even canvas for my foundation. The base looked very beautiful, but after an hour, oil peaked through. It was as though I didn’t use a primer at all. -_- And the redness correcting primer did not neutralize the redness one bit. In fact, I didn’t see a difference between my bare face and with the product on my face. It, however, has a very pleasant lotion texture.

For the excessive price tag of these primers, $36 for the full size (10. oz) and $16 for the travel size (0.5 oz), these primers should create miracles. Once again, primers have failed me.

I would love to know how you guys feel about them. Remember, while these didn’t work out for me, it could be a different story for you. Comment below for any oily skin primer recommendations as well.
